Shinagawa is partly an international business hub, but combined with upscale shopping and dining areas and a queiter residential area. The atmosphere varies depending where you are in the Ward.
Close to the station and many offices and company headquarters. Businesses here include Sony, Rakuten, Lawson, Sega, Adobe, Philips, Microsoft and Japan Airlines. With so many large offices in the area, there is a lot of traffic around Shinagawa Station. In addition, Shinagawa is the location of one of the Immigration Bureau offices. The presence of global companies near Shinagawa station gives the area a more international atmosphere
Along the waterfront is a redeveloped commercial and residential area known for beautiful views of Tokyo Bay. There are a few parks near the waterfront, helping give Shinagawa’s residential side a high degree of livability.
Further inland are calm residential neighbourhoods within commuting distance to many of Tokyo's business districts.
When looking for apartments around Shinagawa, it’s a good idea to become familiar with the differences in the neighborhoods in the area. For instance, there are new and modern high-rise apartment complexes around Tennozu Isle and Shinagawa Station. But closer to Shimbaba and Nishi-Oi , tends to be more affordable housing in low-rise apartments.
