Queens Neighbourhoods

Astoria, Jackson Heights

Astoria

Astoria is located in the northwest corner of Queens.  It is bordered on the west and north by the East River, on the east by Woodside, and on the south by Sunnyside and Long Island City. Astoria includes the sub-neighborhoods of Ravenswood, a primarily commercial area; Ditmars-Steinway, a popular spot for young professionals named after the Steinway & Sons piano company; and Astoria Heights, a residential area of detached houses.   It  has a below average violent crime rate and a low property crime rate for New York City.

Astoria attracts singles, professionals, families, retirees and empty-nesters.  There is a wide range of ethnicities living in Astoria, and it also attracts New Yorkers from other parts of the city because of the larger homes and affordability. Housing stock is diverse.  There are prewar brick apartment buildings, townhouses, and single-family homes alongside large developments bringing thousands of luxury apartments

Jackson Heights

Jackson Heights is bordered on the north by LaGuardia Airport, on the east by East Elmhurst and North Corona, on the south by Elmhurst, and on the west by Woodside.  Jackson Heights has a below average violent crime rate and a low property crime rate for New York City.  It attracts singles, professionals, families, retirees and empty-nesters.

Jackson Heights is perhaps the most ethnically diverse neighborhood in New York City. It's much more affordable than many other vibrant parts of the city. Jackson Heights has prewar apartments and co-ops with central gardens, large semi-detached homes, and new condos getting built by developers.

The main downside to Jackson Heights is that being close to LaGuardia International Airport, there is considerable noise from planes taking off and landing.
