Registration with social security

All Belgian residents are required to contribute towards healthcare and social security.  This is normally done by the employer. You need to be registered in order to apply for healthcare. Both employers and employees make monthly contributions towards social security. These go towards the following 

  • unemployment benefits;
  • sickness benefits;
  • incapacity or disability benefits;
  • family allowances;
  • pensions.
